Description

MasterKure 111 is an evaporation retardant and finishing aid, which assists in producing high quality concrete flatwork. It retards water evaporation during trowelling, regulates the surface condition of the slab and permits better adherence to finishing schedules. MasterKure 111 is especially effective in combating rapid-drying conditions such as high temperatures, low humidity and high winds.

Recommended uses

All types of concrete slabs, toppings, and finishing operations including:

  • Concrete containing water reducing, retarding or accelerating admixtures
  • Air entrained concrete
  • Tilt-up, lift slab, pre-cast or prestressed concrete
  • Metallic or natural aggregate dry shakes and toppings
  • Coloured concrete
  • Burnished hard trowel, non-slip, swirltrowelled, or wood float finishes
  • Hand or machine finishing
  • Membrane-type curing compounds, plastic sheeting, waterproof paper or ponding

MasterKure 111 is not a curing agent and has no effect on hardened concrete. Concrete must still be properly cured.

Features and Benefits

  • Reduces surface moisture evaporation - reduces or eliminates plastic shrinkage cracking and wind crusting by about 80% in wind and 40% in sunlight.
  • Reduces potential for surface drying shrinkage crazing - concrete quality improves with better and denser surface.
  • Easier finishing - the surface closes better under the trowel giving an improved finish with less work.
  • Reduces or eliminates crusting, stickiness and underlying sponginess – due to rapid evaporation leading to unevenness and poor surface texture.
  • Essential hot weather concreting practice - to combat rapid-drying conditions and retard evaporation.

Application

MasterKure 111 can be applied with ordinary garden or backpack type sprayers. IMPORTANT: Shake/mix MasterKure 111 vigorously prior to diluting with water and again prior to each application. To assist with spraying, dilute one part MasterKure 111 with nine parts water. MasterKure 111 should be applied immediately after screeding while surface moisture is still present. Spray onto surface lightly and uniformly, achieving a fine mist. Avoid having the nozzle too close, or the pressure too high, so as not to disrupt the surface. MasterKure 111 contains a fluorescent green-yellow colour tint so that untreated surfaces can be easily distinguished. The colour disappears completely upon drying.

Proceed with floating and trowelling, these operations will break the film but it will restore itself immediately. Under severe evaporation conditions of hot winds, low relative humidity and high temperatures, larger pours may need repeat applications of MasterKure 111 after initial screeding and levelling has taken place in order to reduce the possibility of drying out. Contractors should take care to regularly check condition of slabs and reapply if necessary. In addition, it may be advisable to apply MasterKure 111 after each subsequent finishing operation, however DO NOT over apply in normal conditions as a finishing aid such as this can increase water/cement ratio on surface resulting in a weak, dusty layer. Any film residue remaining on the surface of hardened concrete will not impair bonding of toppings or surface treatments or alter the colour appearance.

To avoid staining, any residue remaining from spillage or spraying of MasterKure 111 concentrate on the surface of hardened concrete should not be allowed to dry. Wipe off immediately, and then rinse with water. If staining occurs it can be removed by placing a cloth saturated with household type chlorinated bleach onto the area and covering with plastic to avoid drying out. After one hour the stain should disappear, then rinse with water.

Estimating data

MasterKure 111 should be mixed with water in the ratio of 1 part MasterKure 111 to 9 parts water. 10 litres of diluted solution covers 50-100m² depending on surface texture

Shelf Life

Store out of sunlight and direct heat in tightly closed containers. Under these conditions a shelf life of 12 months can be expected.
