Description

Curecon W is a Type 1-D, Class B, water based resin curing compound used to retain moisture in concrete for effective curing. Used for all concrete but specifically designed for use in mass concrete structures such as roadwork, bridgework and runways.

Curecon W can also be supplied as Type 2 or Type 3 product, where site conditions dictate the use of either of these types.

Curecon W is certified to comply with Australian Standard AS 3799.

Advantages

  • Increases concrete strength and dusting resistance
  • Reduces surface shrinkage and cracking by eliminating moisture loss from exposed surfaces.
  • Eliminates the need for damp hessian, sand or polythene
  • Rapid film formation
  • Tack free when dry
  • Non toxic
  • Complies with Green Star – Office Design V3 IEQ-13
  • Volatile ingredients comply with air pollution requirements of photo-reactive compounds
  • Non-flammable/non dangerous goods classification

Design Criteria

The coating should be applied at a coverage rate of 5m²/litre.

To achieve the correct curing properties and moisture retention according to Australian Standard and various road construction specifications, Curecon W must be applied at the stated coverage rates.

Curecon W contains a fugitive dye to ensure even coverage is attained. This dye evaporates after a short period of time leaving the dried Curecon W as a transparent film.

Typical Properties

Drying time on concrete Approx. 3 hours at 25°C and 50% RH
Viscosity >0.05 Pa
Specific Gravity 0.95-1.0
Flash point Not Applicable
Colour Light green liquid
Coverage 5m²/litre using a spray applicator-do not brush
Application equipment low pressure spray (preferred) or soft 10-15 mm nap roller
Thinning Nil - use as supplied
Clean-up Water when wet. Kerosene, fuel or solvent 525 (allows reemulsification with water) when dry

Estimating

Curecon W is applied at the rate of 5m2 per litre (0.2 litres per m2). Note that surface texture of the finished concrete can affect the apparent coverage rate of the applied coating of Curecon W.

Curecon W is supplied in 20 litre cubes, 200 litre drums and 1,000 litre IBC containers, or in bulk.

Precautions

Do not dilute Curecon W. Use as supplied

Ensure that Curecon W is thoroughly mixed before application commences. Regular mixing of the material during application is recommended.

Do not allow Curecon W to freeze.

Where high or low temperatures are likely to be encountered, Type 2 or Type 3 versions of Curecon W may be required. Contact ITLS Technical Services for advice in these circumstances

Storage

Curecon W should be stored in the original unopened containers in cool, dry conditions. Store away from sources of heat or naked flame. Do not allow Curecon W to freeze.

Curecon W should be used within 12 months of date of manufacture. If the product has been stored for more than 6 months, particular care should be taken to ensure the product is thoroughly mixed before use.

Application Instructions

Use Curecon W as supplied – do not dilute.

The coating should be evenly sprayed onto the surface over the freshly laid concrete as soon as possible after final trowelling. Ideally Curecon W should be applied as soon as the surface bleed water has evaporated.

In all cases Curecon W should be applied at a coverage rate not less than 5m2 per litre.

Note: Aliphatic alcohol preparations used in the finishing process of the concrete surface will not interfere with the drying or bond characteristics of Curecon W.

Compatability

Curecon W is compatible with many hydrocarbon solvent-based primers and is suitable for use on concrete roads which will be subject to line marking. However compatibility tests should be undertaken and confirmed by testing in each and every case.

Curecon W will darken slightly with age and UV exposure. In time the coating will degrade, allowing the unhindered application of other toppings/treatments.

The life of Curecon W will depend on the degree of exposure to weathering that the product experiences. The coating is designed to break down on exposure to weathering influences. Continual exposure to UV light and the effects of weather is needed to ensure this process takes place. It is expected that under these conditions the process will take up to 12 weeks for the Curecon W coating to fully break down.

Clean Up

Tools and equipment can be cleaned with water while Curecon W is wet.

Dried Curecon W can be removed using propriety paint strippers, Solvent 525 or by mechanical means.

Health and Safety

Curecon W is non-toxic.

When applying the product, always use suitable cartridge masks, avoid skin and eye contact.

Avoid breathing spray mist during application.
