Uses

Concure WB30 provides a spray-on membrane to retain moisture in concrete for effective curing. Used for concreting generally but especially useful for large areas of concrete construction such as runways, motorways or bridgeworks.

Advantages

  • Reduces surface shrinkage and cracking by eliminating moisture loss from exposed surfaces
  • Increases concrete strength and dusting resistance
  • Eliminates the need for damp hessian, sand or polythene
  • Rapid film formation
  • Enables concrete to hydrate more efficiently
  • Non-flammable; non-toxic
  • Suitable for potable water applications, complies with requirements of AS/NZS 4020:2005

Specification Compliance

Concure WB30 complies with the requirements of AS3799 -1998: liquid membrane - forming curing compounds for concrete.

A copy of the certification is available on request.

Description

Concure WB30 is a low viscosity wax emulsion which incorporates a special alkali reactive emulsion system. This system ensures that the emulsion forms a non penetrating continuous film immediately upon contact with a cementitious surface. This impervious film prevents excessive water evaporation which in turn permits more efficient cement hydration thus reducing shrinkage and increasing durability.

Design criteria

To achieve the correct curing properties, Concure WB30 must be applied on to the substrate at the coverage rate 5m2 per litre.

Specification Clause

Concrete curing compound

All designated areas are to have a liquid curing compound applied to the freshly finished concrete. The curing compound will be based on wax emulsion, have a water retention efficiency of not less than 90% when tested to AS3799 and have a weight solids content of not less than 30%. Such a material is Fosroc Concure WB30. The curing compound is to be applied in accordance with the manufacturers application instructions.

Application Instructions

Concure WB30 should be thoroughly mixed prior to use and spray applied to the surface of newly placed concrete. The compound should be applied as soon as possible after the concrete is free from surface water. The nozzle of the spray should be held approximately 450 mm from the concrete surface and should be passed back and forth to ensure complete coverage. The pump pressure should be maintained at a level producing a fine spray.

Concure WB30 should not be continuously re-circulated through high shear gear pumps when used in concrete train application. If continuous re-circulation is essential the sprayer should be fitted with a low shear diaphragm pump. Rate of application should be 5.0 /litre.

Equipment

For the application of Concure WB30, various types of spraying equipment can be used, i.e. knapsack or motorised sprays.

Cleaning

Immediately after use the spraying equipment should be cleaned out with water. If the spray nozzle becomes blocked with wax particles these can be easily removed using white spirit or similar fluid.

Limitations

Due to the wax film produced, Concure WB30 must not be used as a curing aid on surfaces subjected to after trade treatments.

Concure WB30 has a slightly tacky surface after application which can attract dust and site contaminants.

Do not brush on to soft, wet concrete or render surfaces which will be disturbed and thus prevent formation of the curing film.

Concure WB30 should not be used as the curing compound for any metallic based integral floor hardeners. Concure CR or Concure HR90 should always be used to prevent rusting of the metallic aggregate.

Estimating

Coverage

Concure WB30: 5.0 m² per litre

The coverage figures given are theoretical - due to wastage factors and the variety and nature of possible substrates, practical coverage figures will be reduced.

Shelf life

Concure WB30 has a shelf life of 18 months when stored at temperatures between 4°C and 35°C. Containers should be kept airtight to prevent surface evaporation. Freezing or prolonged exposure to direct heat or direct sunlight must also be avoided.
