About Rugasol 90

Rugasol 90 is a specially formulated liquid surface retarder for summer conditions. Rugasol 90 will cause retardation to the surface of the freshly laid concrete, and will result in an exposed aggregate type finish.

Uses

  • Rugasol 90 can be used on:
  • Driveways
  • Footpaths
  • Patio slabs
  • Beams
  • Architectural concrete

Action

The retarding compound in Rugasol 90 combines with cement at the surface and delays the normal hydration on the surface of the concrete (high cement contents and temperatures will reduce the retardation). After retardation has finished, the concrete cures to its full strength.

Advantages

  • Rugasol 90 can be used undiluted or in diluted version, depending on the degree of the surface penetration required.
  • Depth of penetration is controlled and constant.
  • Surface retardation of up to 24 hours can be achieved.
  • Extremely cost effective.

Storage and Shelf life

Stored at temperatures between 5ºC and 35ºC in unopened original containers, protected from direct sunlight and frost, shelf life is at least one (1) year.

Coverage

Undiluted Rugasol 90: 1 litre per m2 at an approximate exposure depth of 2 to 5mm; Rugasol 90 is a specially formulated liquid surface retarder for summer conditions

Diluted Rugasol 90: Normal exposure between 6-10mm Coverage is 1 litre/4m² of surface

Note: Dilution rate should be 1 part water to 1 part Rugasol 90. Dilution reduces effectiveness of Rugasol 90, trials should occur before application.

Application

Rugasol 90 should be applied in a good uniform coat onto the horizontal concrete surface as soon as the initial ‘bleeding’ of the concrete has finished but before initial set. (A garden sprayer is suitable). Treated surface should be protected from direct sunlight or warm wind, which can cause the surface to dry out rapidly. Proper curing procedures are important to ensure the durability and quality of the concrete.

Paste Removal

After the initial set of the concrete has elapsed, typically 2-12 hours, depending on concrete type and ambient conditions such as humidity, temperature and wind the soft cement paste on the surface can be brushed off and the exposed aggregate finish washed down with clean water. Whilst Rugasol 90 is in use the concrete surface must be protected from rain, dirt, etc. Spray equipment should be washed out after use with hot water. Subsequent to removal of paste, proper curing should take place with an efficient curing compound such as AntisolWB or Antisol HR.

Important Note

  • High cement contents and temperatures will reduce the retardation. After retardation has finished, the concrete cures to its full strength.
  • Overdosing will lead to deeper than required exposures causing aggregate to dislodge.
  • Concrete must be properly cured to ensure maximum strength development.
  • Bleed water must be removed before application, to prevent product dilution.
